Southeastern Sonora, Mexico

I was graciosly invited to tag along on this trip. Rob and I stopped Tucson, then headed south through Nogales and Hermisillo before heading east and into the Sierra Madres.

My first Boa constrictor! We spotted this guy while road cruising a couple nights prior. For a Boa he was surprisingly well-mannered and never tried to bite.

One of several Centruroides sp. that I found in the mountains. According to the locals they are pretty hot!

One of three Crotalus lepidus we found on the trip. aka Rock Rattlesnake

A rare frog we found outside of the hotel. Eleutherodactylus tarahumarensis.

A vinegaroon eating..... something. These were under almost every rock in some places.

Rob's site for Slevin's Bunchgrass Lizards.

Foliage

Humidity sucks

A friendly neighborhood Bufo

Sceloporus virgatus

Got stuck at a stream crossing on the way back. It rained every afternoon and the water rose fast. We ended up eating tortillas and catching Red-spotted Toads until the water level went back down.

Tropical deciduous forest. See if you can spot Rob.

Cool bugs. I have a feeling you wouldn't want to brush up against that first one.

The road to town

One of several large Vaejovis spinigerus

A nice Vaejovid, probably Stahnkeini group, with instars. I found her under rocks on the same hillside that we found two Crotalus lepidus. All scorpions collected were deposited at a university in Hidalgo but will be on loan to us at UNLV.

Overall, it was a great trip. Lots of herps and sevearal exciting scorpions. There are a still a few more photos of different scorpion species that I may add later.
