This webpage will consist of links to various sources that will contain GIS data for GEY 630.

 

1.  Download Generalized Cartographic Boundary Files - U.S. Census Bureau

This Webpage is from the U.S. Census Bureau.  It uses GIS data to show boundaries of the different areas that are used by the U.S. Census Bureau.  You may download data for the ARC/INFO Export (.e00) format, the ArcView Shapefile (.shp) format, and the ARC/INFO Ungenerate (ASCII) format.

2.  Census 2000 TIGER/Line Data

This Webpage is also from the U.S. Census Bureau.  This page allows the user to download layers of data that run from a particular states boundaries, to roads, railroads and utility lines, to school districts and even demographics.  These files are to be viewed using either ArcGIS and ArcExplorer-Java Edition.

3.  List of GIS coverages for water

This will just about cover any type of GIS dataset you may need when looking for datasets that have to anything to do with water.  The only thing missing may be some regional specific data, but otherwise a very good website.

4.  OpenWeb Info Mapper

This website gives you the ability to download zoning data for Southern Nevada.  This page will also give you links to various other local GIS agencies.

5.  EPA's Clean Air Markets Programs - GIS Data Download

This page gives you access to the EPA's GIS data center.  This will allow you to download air, water, land, deposition, emissions, climate/meteorology, sensitive resources, demographics, and area boundaries data.

6.  GIS Data Sets

This page allows you to download data from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service.  The data is represented by each state, all you have to do is click the link to access more specific data from the state you choose.

7. Geospatial Data and Metadata

This site contains data used by the Nevada Bureau of Land Management.  The data comes in layers ranging from wilderness areas, to landowners, herd areas, city and town boundaries, plus various other topics for the state of Nevada.

8.  Clark County, Nevada - Government Services

This site contains more specific information for Southern Nevada.  This contains datasets that range from a street centerline database, to election districts, flood control districts, zoning, land use and even census data.

9.  National Atlas of the United States

This site allows you to download a copy of a map of the United States.  The main feature of the website is that it allows you to download many different layers to add on to the map. 

10.CIESIN-SEDAC's DDCartogram: GIS Format Conversion Service

This site allows you to look at census geography from pretty much anywhere in the United States.  This is easier to navigate than the official U.S. Census Bureau home page, but doesn't have as much complete information.  Use this only if you need Census geographical areas.
